Doddsy Dinger-Tiger Football…….The Definition of Class

November 24, 2019

Coming off a 68-0 trouncing of The Dalles in a state semi-final game where everything went right for La Grande I’ve been doing some thinking. I have been around a lot of middle school to high school age players in my day. I am also a LHS alumni and former Tiger football player. Through watching these kids in games and practice I have come to the conclusion that this is definitely a special group of young men. Not only do they have each others backs to the fullest, they do it in a kind, uplifting and respectful way. They are constantly picking each other up and the competitive banter is never taken too far. This says a lot about high school age football players. I could sit here and name players and talk about them on an individual basis but I’m not going to do it. This team is special not because of one particular player, this team is special because all the players involved have “bought in”. It is really something fun to watch unfold. Every interview we have done with these kids has been a superb example of great parenting and great coaching. The young men we have talked to have always been graceful, humble, respectful and have always found a way to pass the accolades to their teammates. This not only makes me proud of these young men, the coaches and the parents…it makes me proud of my home town for having young adults like these guys in our community. With all of the different personalities on this team we have had many laughs and have been able to see some of the players true colors. It has been such a privilege for The Johnny Ballgame Show to get to cover this team. That being said, there is one goal left for this team. Next Saturday this LHS Fightin Tiger football team will take on Banks at 6pm in Hermiston vying for their first state championship since 1974. They have all of the ingredients to make this beautiful dream come true and I have never been around a group of young men who deserve it more than these guys. All of this has made me come to the realization that when kids are raised right, act right, are humble, classy and work hard…things go right. Regardless of the outcome on Saturday I tip my hat to this special group of young men. This team is definitely a Doddsy Dinger…….oh yeah one last thing. ITS A GREAT DAY TO BE A FIGHTIN TIGER!
